The Raleigh Playhouse & Theatre in Beckley WVSitting atop the Beckley Underground, 'The Raleigh' is at the heart of the rejuvenation of downtown Beckley
The Raleigh Playhouse & Theatre is an arthouse cinema, hosting play productions, musical performances, and films in a tiered theatre setting where you will never be further than 61 feet away from the stage. We can comfortably seat 188 guests, but will make room for 200 in the event of larger showings.
Our desire is to showcase the films you always wanted to see on the big screen, along with indie films we think you’ll love, including those of WV filmmakers. We are always on the lookout for up-and-coming local playwrights, and our intimate stage setting allows you to immerse yourself in the stories we work so hard to tell you.
Sitting atop the Beckley Underground, the theatre is at the heart of the rejuvenation of downtown Beckley, where George and Matthew Bickey’s father, Daniel, envisioned a cultural pivot for the arts. Daniel Bickey saw downtown Beckley as a cultural desert, and because of his avid support until his passing, Beckley has steadily become a strong, independent, and diverse arts community.
Sitting just below The Raleigh Playhouse is Sir Walter’s Tavern, the only spot in Beckley you’ll find a genuine speakeasy atmosphere where you can sip on a tasty cocktail while viewing the ever-rotating showings of talented, local artists.
